We are looking for the BEST singers in WA state to Represent Washington at our
National and Worlds Competition. Various cash & prizes will be offered. When you enter to
compete with WA State WKT you understand that you are entering into a contract to join the
representing team and will make all efforts to attend the National or Worlds Final Competition
that will follow.
The number of “qualifying rounds” are determined by the venue so there can be
two or more. If you win at a venue-YOU ARE NOT PERMITTED TO COMPETE IN ANOTHER
VENUE FINAL FOR THE STATE COMPETITION.
The reason for this is our venues have their own competition going on! When you go to the WA
State finals you will be “representing” the venue. If a venue qualified entrant wins 1st place at
the WKT State Championships, that venue wins our “VENUE CHAMPION” trophy. ( Be aware
that venues may ask you to take a photo with the owner for further bragging rights should you
win)
All our qualifiers will be POP-UP style qualifiers this year. It is a one-night venue event and Winners at a venue go straight to the WKT WA States Competition!
This form is required by all who compete. It permits us to take photos and
video to share, as well as admits you into our WKT Family. The
waiver holds harmless anyone and everyone assisting WKT should a contestant become injured while participating. All minors must
have a parent or guardian present to sign.
The Entry fee at a qualifier is $10. The entry fee is due to the fact that the venue has not “sponsored” to offset any of the costs. This fee helps cover the cost of prizes as well as
expenses to run this contest. . (So, if you want to pay less and not drive as far- ask your favorite
bar or KJ near you to host a sponsored event!) Once you pay your registration to compete, it is non-refundable. We will try to accommodate true emergency situations. "Sponsored events" are no cost to the singers. This is because the bar or venue has decided to cover the cost of the contest.
-You must perform one song to qualify. You must state that “this is my contest song” before
singing to get the judge(s) attention. This song may be a karaoke track, or if the KJ will allowyour
own original backing track.
You may choose to change your contest song prior to performing but it must also be changed
on your registration as well.
-RE-SING. If you have already sung and feel you have more to show or just weren’t “happy”
with the performance, we will allow one “re-sing” opportunity. The cost for a “re-sing” is $10 .
We will tear up your old score sheet and registration and you can start fresh.
-You must be present at the end of the night to accept your certificate into states. If your
name is called but you have gone home, you are disqualified. If you have a special medical
condition that makes attending the whole event difficult due to loud sounds and/or lights,
please notify judges at registration. Provide a way to contact you ( cell number, txt, or messages
on FB) and we will permit you to sing and leave. You MUST be able and willing to come back in
a timely manner once messaged to accept the certificate.
-Songs Must be under 5 minutes.
-There is no swearing or vulgar acts allowed. You may be docked points if the judges catch it or
even disqualified, depending on the severity of the act. If a song has a swear word and you choose to “not sing” that word or switch it out, you will not be docked points in any area.
-YOU MAY SING ANY SONG EXCEPT THE SONG YOU SANG TO ENTER THE STATE FINALS. (first
song of a venue qualifier may be repeated if you did not qualify or if it was sung as a warm up.)
-YOU MUST PREPARE 2 SONGS. ONE FOR THE FIRST ROUND ELIMINATION AND THE SECOND
FOR THE FINALS. We strongly discourage repeat songs unless they are a first round/finals round
situation. Songs will be first come first awarded. You will be assigned a time slot to perform so
you can properly prepare after all the songs have been received.
-ALL SONGS MUST BE LESS THAN 5 MINUTES IN LENGTH . We will allow for some leeway on
this rule if the overage is due to a long musical outro. You must notify WKT at the time of the
submission and we will fade out the end track. Should we not get as many singers in attendance
as projected, we may revisit this rule and notification will be given to all singers via the WKT WA
Facebook page.
-THERE IS NO SWEARING OR “VULGAR” ACTS ALLOWED DURING YOUR PERFORMANCE.
JUDGES RESERVE THE RIGHT TO EITHER DOCK YOU POINTS OR DISQUALIFY YOU ALL TOGETHER
DEPENDING ON THE OFFENSE. THIS IS A FAMILY SHOW WITH A JUNIORS EVENT.
-There is absolutely NO LEAVING THE STAGE AREA during a performance! If you jump from the stage or go into the audience, you will be disqualified.
-You are permitted (and encouraged) to use costuming and props. Stage presence will be a
part of your scoring. Make sure you have all items ready to go and help assigned to get them on
stage. ( you will have exactly 1 minute then your track will start.) Single Instruments will be
allowed, but be aware we will not permit any special hook ups or time for you to “get ready”.
We may be able to provide one 10v plug - as long as we are made aware in advance that it will
be needed.
-THERE IS NO ASSOCIATING WITH THE JUDGES UNTIL AFTER THE CONTEST HAS ENDED WITH
IT’S LAST AWARD GIVEN.
- “PROFESSIONALS ARE WELCOME TO COMPETE AS LONG AS THEY ARE NOT CURRENTLY
UNDER CONTRACT.
-YOU MUST HAVE YOUR SONG SELECTIONS TURNED IN AND APPROVED BY THE DATE
PROVIDED (September 1st) OR YOU CAN BE DISQUALIFIED. OUR GOAL IS TO MAKE THIS A FUN
PRODUCTION FOR EVERYONE.In order to insure a smooth production we need to have all songs
purchased and in cue in advance. Your cooperation in this is greatly appreciated.
-YOU MUST BE PRESENT WHEN CALLED TO PERFORM ON STAGE OR TO ACCEPT AN AWARD. THIS INCLUDES THE FINAL ROUND ANNOUNCEMENT. WE WILL TRY TO GIVE ADEQUATE
ADVANCE NOTICE.
